The Final Trip.
Albert Hofman, the chemist who invented LSD, died today at age 102. That's right: one hundred and two years old. Just goes to show...
Hofmann discovered acid by accidentally ingesting a bit of lysergic acid diethylamide. Finding that it caused "a peculiar state of "drunkenness,'" Hofmann took another dose, then went tooling around on his bicycle. The world's first trip is still know as the "bicycle trip" because Hofmann rode his bike home while tripping.
"Albert's as amazing as the LSD," said an acid aficionado.
The link for this obit, by Stephen Miller, hasn't made it the New York Sun Web site yet, and, somehow, I suspect I shouldn't cut and paste it on to thegreatleslie.com. If your interested, check it out on the site.
