all shook up

"It's easier on your insides if you don't get all shook up about things," my grandmother, Virginia K. Lawson, told me over the phone on Friday. This one of many pieces of brilliant advice she has given me over the years. "Don't hate; it's a waste of energy," is another gem. She also showed me how to wash my face in upward strokes when I was twelve or so, to prevent wrinkles. All brilliant advice.

I've been a little shook up lately, mostly about the triathlon, for which I am not quite in shape enough and for which I haven't raised enough money (haven't made a donation? you can do so here!!!). And also my regular stresses: work, money, the tension of the city. But, my grandmother says I shouldn't be shook up. And, as of NOW, I am renewing my efforts not to be.
