the weekend
This weekend I went to a bachelorette party in Vermont with nine other women. The bride is a friend from my old newspaper job, and I was excited to celebrate with her and her friends. I will also say I'd never really been to a bachelorette party before, and was a bit, um, worried about the silly things I might have to subject myself to. But, I was nervous over nothing: The weekend was full of delicious food, excellent drinks, and a beautiful view. Oh, and a blow-up doll.
My contribution, other than my endlessly witty banter, was a collection of batiked tanktops I made when I was in Newburyport visiting the family.
These were dyed a light color (pink, yellow, and teal), painted with hot wax in star and heart shapes, then dyed a darker color. The wax keeps the darker dye from seeping into the fabric. When the wax is ironed out, the original color shines through. I think these look cool, if somewhat imperfect. And everyone likes a gift they can wear immediately, even if they never wear it again.
The organizer of the event gave us all horseshoe necklaces, so all the girls were wearing batiked tanks and matching necklaces by the end of the night. Except me. I was wearing my best dress and highest red shoes...just for fun!
